Where this bites in the order flow

"Rounds" like this govern periodic elements of the referral programme — the framework and prize pool that sit alongside the core benefit — and they are exactly the kind of detail that generates deadline pressure online: "the programme ends 31 July, order before then or miss out." That pressure was never really about whether a referral link works; the link-before-you-configure mechanic and the 650-mile Supercharging benefit for a new Model 3 or Model Y aren't tied to a specific round's end date. If you felt rushed by a 31 July cut-off, that rush was misplaced — and now the date itself has moved regardless.

Where the date falls now, and what it applies to

Written when 16 September was comfortably ahead; as of 1 September it is a fortnight out, which changes the useful question from whether the date is right to what exactly it governs.

It governs when you order. The referral attaches at the point the order is created, not at delivery, so a round's closing date is about the day you place the order rather than the day the car arrives. Order in September for a December handover and it is September's terms that attached.

Two honest caveats. Tesla does not publish how the precise cut-off is handled — the hour, the timezone, or whether it hangs on the order or the deposit — and we are not going to fill that in. And that uncertainty makes the order-summary check more valuable rather than less: if the benefit line is there, it attached, whatever a date elsewhere implies.

Why we are not telling you to hurry

This is the point where a referral page would normally apply pressure, so it is worth being explicit. This round has already moved once — 31 July became 16 September. That is not evidence it will move again, but it is the only thing we actually know about deadlines of this kind: they can be shifted, without notice.

What follows is unglamorous:

• Do not let a round deadline set your order date. The referral is the smallest number in a UK Tesla purchase. Bringing a decision forward by two weeks to secure it, while you are still weighing trim, finance or delivery window, lets the smallest item beat the largest.
• UK buyers have two thresholds that deserve the time instead. Whether your configured list price stays under the £50,000 VED expensive-car line, and how the car is financed — a salary-sacrifice scheme changes the tax treatment of the whole payment. Both are worth more careful thought than a fortnight's deadline on 650 Supercharging miles.
• Already decided? Then order. None of this is an argument to delay — only not to accelerate.

What to actually do with this

Don't replace one artificial deadline with another. "16 September" isn't a new reason to rush either — it could move again, the way this one just did. The reliable habit is to check Tesla's own Refer and Earn page for the current terms on the day you actually open your referral link, rather than planning around a deadline you read somewhere else weeks earlier.
