If you were planning an S or X order, the referral answer changed
The eligibility cliff, explained for the buyers it actually affects — and what the alternative looks like in the UK line-up.
In March 2026, weeks after the Refer and Earn terms were revised on 24 February, Model S and Model X were removed from the referral programme. If those were the cars you were planning around, the referral answer for your order is now simply no.
What the removal means precisely
A referral link applied to a Model S or Model X order attaches nothing. The link still functions, the order completes, and neither party receives anything — with no warning at any point in the flow. It is the single largest wasted-referral scenario in the programme.
The UK list as it stands
Eligible: Model 3 and Model Y, each attaching 650 free Supercharging miles on a new order. Not eligible: Model S and Model X. Not sold in the UK: Cybertruck, whose trim-level eligibility elsewhere is academic here.
What to do instead, if a third row was the reason
This is the group the removal actually hurt. A six-seat Model Y variant sits inside an eligible family, which makes moving a third-row requirement from an X to a Model Y one of the very few configuration changes that adds a referral benefit rather than losing one. UK pricing and availability for the six-seat variant are not published at the time of writing, and this guide will not estimate them.
What to do if you still want the S or X
Buy it, and stop looking for a referral. 650 Supercharging miles is a small benefit against a car in that price bracket, and there is no version of the programme that will attach it. Anyone offering you a code that "works on a Model S" is describing a pre-March 2026 world.
The order-screen check that confirms everything
Configure the exact car through a referral link and read the order summary before paying. The benefit line is either there or it is not. That screen is live; every published eligibility list, including this one, is a snapshot — and when the two disagree, the screen is right.
Why so many pages still list S and X
Because referral content is rewritten from other referral content, and a page that was accurate in 2025 looks exactly as confident now as it did then. The models still exist and the programme still exists, so nothing about the page signals that one clause changed underneath it. This is the strongest argument for date-stamping claims rather than pages.
The route question that sits alongside eligibility
Even on an eligible car, the purchase route has to be able to carry a referral: a new configured order or inventory stock can, a used purchase generally cannot, and a lease or company-car order placed by a third party attaches to their order or to nothing.
