Tesla's cheaper Model 3 Standard cuts real features. What that means before a UK order — and what it doesn't

In the US, the Model 3 Standard starts at $38,630 — $5,500 under the rest of the range — but Tesla got there partly by removing features, including Autosteer.
In the US, a new entry trim — the Model 3 Standard — starts at $38,630 including destination and fees, $5,500 under the rest of the range, which runs $36,990 (RWD) to $54,990 (Performance AWD). The saving isn't just a smaller battery: Tesla also deleted FM radio, the 8-inch rear touchscreen, ventilated seats, Autosteer, and the frequency-dependent shocks. Range drops to 321 miles from 363, and peak charging to 225 kW from 250 kW.
Why this isn't a UK price story — yet
Those figures are US dollars, from the US configurator, and Tesla has not confirmed that an identical Standard trim, with the same feature list, will be sold in the UK at a directly-converted GBP price. UK specs and pricing are set separately, and pasting a dollar figure onto a pound sign would be exactly the kind of invented number this site won't publish. Treat this as a US product-strategy signal, not a UK price you can act on today.
What's worth watching if Tesla brings this to the UK
The detail that matters most for a referral buyer isn't the price — it's the deletion of Autosteer, one of Tesla's driver-assistance features, from the cheapest trim. If a UK Standard trim arrives with the same cut, that's a genuine spec difference between it and the rest of the Model 3 range, separate from anything to do with the referral programme. The 650-mile Supercharging benefit for a Model 3 or Model Y applies the same way regardless of trim — it's attached by opening a referral link before you configure, not by which features are fitted.
Does this change your order timing?
Only in one narrow sense: if a lower-cost UK Standard trim is confirmed later, buyers who specifically want Autosteer or the other deleted features would need to check the exact UK spec sheet before ordering that trim, rather than assuming it matches the rest of the range. Until Tesla confirms UK availability and pricing, there's nothing here that should speed up or delay an order placed today.
Background: the real UK referral saving, regardless of trim.
