How to share your Tesla referral link and earn credits (UK)
Already own a Tesla? You can share your referral link and earn rewards when someone buys through it. Here’s the UK-accurate version — credits, not cash, with a yearly cap.
Where to find your link
Open the Tesla app → your profile → Refer and Earn (sometimes shown as your Loot Box). Your unique
link looks like ts.la/<yourcode>.
What you actually earn
- Referral credits toward Tesla products, accessories and merchandise — not a cash payment.
- Loyalty benefits can apply when you buy again on the same account.
- Capped at 10 referrals per calendar year.
How to share it well
Tell people the honest version: opening your link first gets them 650 free Supercharging miles on a new Model 3 / Model Y. That’s a better pitch than a mythical discount.
New buyers should read how buyers use a referral code → so they apply it in the right order. Full UK detail: the real UK saving →.
How to tell whether your referral actually landed
The awkward situation this page doesn't otherwise cover: a friend says they used your link, and nothing ever shows up on your side. Before assuming anything went wrong, understand that there are three separate reasons you might see nothing — and only one of them is a problem.
| What you're seeing | Most likely explanation |
|---|---|
| Nothing yet, and their car hasn't arrived | Expected. Rewards attach on delivery, not on order, and UK delivery windows run to weeks or months. Nothing has failed. |
| Nothing, and their car has been delivered | Now worth investigating. The usual cause is that they configured before opening your link, so no referral was ever recorded. |
| Nothing, and you've had several referrals this year | Check your annual count. Past the yearly cap your link still works for them but stops paying you — and it fails silently rather than warning you. |
The uncomfortable part of the middle row: you cannot verify it and they can. Only the buyer sees their own order summary, so the one question that settles it is theirs to answer — did the referral line appear before you paid? If they can't remember, it probably didn't, because it's the kind of thing people notice.
Ask once, at the right moment
There's a version of this conversation that helps and a version that strains a friendship. The helpful one happens before they pay, when it's still fixable: a single message saying "when you get to the order summary, check there's a referral line before you confirm — if it's missing, tell me and we'll sort it in five minutes." That's a favour to them, not a request from you, because the buyer benefit is theirs to lose too.
Afterwards, there is nothing to be gained by asking. It can't be added retroactively, so the only outcome is making someone feel they cost you something. Let it go — and if you refer again, send that one sentence.
What not to do about it
- Don't chase Tesla on their behalf. You aren't a party to their order and you have no standing to query it.
- Don't ask them to cancel and reorder to fix your reward. The delivery slot is worth more to them than the credit is to you, and it's a genuinely unreasonable ask.
- Don't assume bad faith. Configuring first is the single most common referral failure in the programme. It happens to people who fully intended to use your link.
Keeping the whole thing proportionate is the point. Referring is a small perk with a real failure rate, and treating it as an entitlement is the fastest way to make sharing a link feel like an imposition.
