The Tesla referral benefit is easy to get and easy to lose. The single rule that matters: open the referral link before you start building your car. Do it in the wrong order and the 650 free Supercharging miles can’t attach. Here’s the flow I followed on a UK order.
Step 1 — Open a referral link first
Use a valid referral link (the tool above rotates a real one). This tags your session with an owner’s referral code before you configure anything.
Step 2 — Configure on tesla.com/en_gb
Design your new Model 3 or Model Y in the same browser session. On the UK order summary you’ll see the referral benefit acknowledged before payment. (Screenshots to be added from a live UK order — this build ships with a placeholder note rather than a fabricated image.)
Step 3 — Place the order and check the app
Complete the order. After delivery, the Supercharging credit shows up on your Tesla account. It cannot be added retroactively, so if you didn’t open a link first, you’ve missed it for that order.
What you should not expect

If you're going through salary sacrifice or a lease, read this first
The three steps above assume you are ordering the car yourself, on tesla.com, with your own account. A large share of UK Teslas are not bought that way — they arrive through salary sacrifice or a leasing provider, and that changes the one thing the referral depends on.
The referral attaches to the session that creates the order. Under a salary-sacrifice scheme, the order is typically placed by the leasing company or the scheme provider, not by you. Your browser never touches the configurator, so there is no session of yours to tag — which means the ordinary "click the link first" advice has nothing to attach to.
We are not going to tell you how any particular provider handles this, because it varies by provider and we have not verified it. What we can do is give you the question to ask, early, in these words:
Ask the scheme: "Who places the order with Tesla, and can a Tesla referral link be applied to it? If yes, what do you need from me and by when?" Ask before you confirm your quote — after the order exists, nothing can be attached, and that is true whoever placed it.
Three outcomes are worth being prepared for, and none of them is a disaster:
- The provider can apply it. Then supply the code early and ask to see it reflected before the order is submitted, exactly as you would on your own order.
- The provider cannot, or will not. Then the referral simply is not part of this route. That is worth knowing rather than discovering at delivery, and it changes nothing about whether the scheme is a good deal.
- Nobody at the provider knows. The most common answer in practice. Treat a vague reply as a no for planning purposes, and do not let it hold up a decision that is worth far more than the referral.
Keeping the proportions straight
Which brings up the thing this site would rather say than bury. If salary sacrifice is available to you, that decision is worth multiples of the referral, because it changes the tax treatment of the whole payment rather than adding a fixed benefit on top.
