Tesla referral: UK vs US — why UK buyers don’t get free FSD
Plenty of “Tesla voucher code” sites tell UK buyers they’ll get “3 months free Full Self-Driving”. That’s a US and Canadian perk copied onto a UK page — and it’s wrong. Here’s the accurate comparison.

Why the UK is different
FSD (Supervised) is not available to buy or trial in the UK as of July 2026 (VCA review; expected late 2026 / early 2027). On top of that, FSD (Supervised) moved to subscription-only in the UK from 21 May 2026. You can’t be given a free trial of something that isn’t yet approved to use on UK roads — so Tesla’s UK referral benefit is Supercharging miles instead.
What to watch for
- Any UK page promising “free FSD” via referral is repeating a US figure — treat the rest of its facts with caution.
- UK approval is expected late 2026 / early 2027 pending VCA review; we’ll update this post if that changes. We won’t state a date as fact.
Which benefit is actually worth more? Not the one you'd assume
UK buyers reading US pages often feel short-changed — three months of FSD sounds far more impressive than some free charging. Price both honestly and that intuition doesn't survive.

That fourth row is the whole argument. A software trial is worth its sticker price only to someone who would otherwise have subscribed. For everyone else it's a three-month demo that ends — pleasant, but the honest realised value is near zero, and Tesla is fairly clearly hoping you'll convert.
Charging credit has no such condition attached. Every mile of it displaces electricity you were going to buy anyway. It is a smaller headline number and a far more certain one.
The exception worth naming: if you were already planning to pay for FSD, the US benefit is straightforwardly better and it isn't close. That's a real gap — just a much narrower one than the headline figures suggest.
What else US pages get wrong for a UK reader
The FSD claim is the most visible error, but a page that copied it usually copied its neighbours too. Four to watch for:
- Dollar amounts for the referrer. The US referrer reward is denominated in US Tesla Credits. A UK referrer's reward is not that number in a different currency symbol.
- The $7,500 federal credit. It no longer exists as a point-of-sale credit even in the US, so a page still quoting it is doubly out of date — and it has no UK analogue whatsoever. The UK equivalent conversation is the Electric Car Grant, which works completely differently.
- Model S and Model X listed as eligible. They left the referral programme; this is a reliable age-marker for any page.
- Cybertruck. Freely discussed on US pages, not sold here. If it appears in a UK benefit table, the page wasn't written for the UK.
What changes if FSD does arrive in the UK

The precedent already exists in Europe: the Netherlands became the first EU country to approve FSD (Supervised) for public use, which removes the regulatory reason it receives charging credit instead of a trial.
The implication for a UK buyer is that the benefit could change shape, not just size — and it could do so without much announcement. Two practical consequences. First, don't treat any referral figure, including the one on this page, as durable; check your own order summary at the time you order. Second, if approval does land, expect a wave of UK pages to swing from "no free FSD" to "3 months free FSD" without checking whether Tesla actually tied the trial to the UK referral programme. The two things are separate, and one doesn't follow automatically from the other.
